Ground Zero: About Us
What is Ground Zero? It started in 2017 as a way for me to test out a bunch of new characters. The idea was I'd have this "reality" show with all the possible options, and the winner would go on to be the one I'd use in the FWA. The premise of it was a bunch of every day nobodies who were trying to make it big. Think Tough Enough combined with the first season of NXT. In the end it served it's purpose, I found a character that worked and I debuted them in the FWA.
But then, a couple years later, I decided to run a second season of the show. This time, I opened it up to the public. Anyone was allowed to submit a character, and then I'd run the season. I think it had some huge success, because that second season of the show produced more talent for the FWA than we had seen in awhile.
So how does it work now? Just about the same. About once or twice a year I host a season of Ground Zero. Everyone submits applications for characters to volunteer, and then I run the show. Characters usually get eliminated each week, and then there's a winner crowned at the end. I don't ask for any commitments for those who submit characters. You can make a character up and then never do anything again.
So how do I decide who gets eliminated, and who wins in the end? Before each season, I'll ask who wants their characters to be taken serious and to go to the end. If you plan on using your character in the FWA, then I'll make sure they stay and have a chance to win in the end. Although, eliminated characters are still eligible to win and we've had some win in the past. How does winning work? It's the one point of the show where there is a promo thread set up. If there's multiple people looking to win, then they'll all promo before the last episode. I and a couple of volunteers I can find will grade them, using the same grading scale as the FWA, and that will determine the winner.
