| The final match of Genki Pro’s ‘THE BATTLE OF TSUSHIMA’ event sees two stars who are as well known (or more, in one case) the other side of the Pacific Ocean. Both Makima Snowmantashi and ‘weaseldreamer’ (or, more accurately, the woman in the suit) have competed in the Fantasy Wrestling Alliance in the past, and both are currently under contract in the US’s premier promotion. weaseldreamer has been touring Japan during a break from the FWA, including bookings for NTE, PWK, Honshu Puroresu, and DJPW, and will finish her tour with a special appearance in Genki Pro. Her opponent, Makima Snowmantashi, has also recently re-signed with the FWA following her short run in the company last year. This main event match will give Snowmantashi chance to say farewell to Japan after being sidelined with injury for the last sixteen months, as she prepares to embark on another American sojourn, where she will compete in the forthcoming Fallout Eliminator tournament. There is, of course, some history between Makima Snowmantashi and Michelle von Horrowitz, the woman widely assumed to be beneath the weaseldreamer suit. Back when MvH held the FWA World Tag Team Championships, alongside Gerald Grayson as par of the connection, Makima Snowmantashi was successful in a number one contendership match for that title. She was allowed to pick her partner, choosing Zom Gippy and taking the Connection to a draw. Dreamer also has ties to Makima’s father, Jon Snowmantashi, with whom she has shared the ring many times, the result of all of them being the kaiju’s triumph, even in matches where MvH was officially declared the winner. Michelle also has a connection with the setting of this match: a ring will be set up on the shores of the frozen lake upon Tsushima, where von Horrowitz - reportedly, according to some internet sources - shared a confrontation with Ryan Rondo nearly four years ago. Given Makima’s idolisation of ‘the Last Star in the Sky’, the idea of casting herself in the Rondo role in this remake will no doubt be a motivating factor for Snowmantashi. |
