Hey Everybody,
This is probably going to be a little long, but I have a lot to say. Bear with me, please.
The mod team knows about this already, but I just wanted to put it out there myself. I will be resigning as a member of the mod team, effective 12/31/24. As most of you know, I love music. I love writing it, performing it, listening to it, everything. I’ve been given an opportunity to play guitar in a band and actually get paid to do something that I love more than anything in the world.
Unfortunately, the money isn’t going to be enough to pay my bills, which means I still have to work, and I’m still finishing up my degree. As most of the gigs that I’ll be playing will take place on weekends, there’s just no way for me to continue to juggle everything, so some tough decisions had to be made.
I was asked about joining the mod team shortly after Back in Business 2023. SS reached out and asked if I would be interested and I immediately said yes. He asked if I wanted to think it over, and I said I didn’t need to. The opportunity to get to serve in any sort of leadership role of a fed that has been around for this long was too good to pass up, and I legitimately consider it an honor to have been given the chance to fill a role. To say it’s uncommon for an e-fed to last this long is an understatement. It’s unheard of.
20 years from now, no one will remember when Tommy was on the mod team, but in 20 years, I’ll look back and know that I got to be a part of something that has lasted so long, because you can bet your ass that I’m banking on FWA being around in another two decades.
The last 12-plus months of getting to work with SS, Man, Dubb, and Jimmy have been a blast. I’ve been able to watch the work that those guys put into keeping this thing going. It’s unreal, and most people never know anything about what goes into getting shows posted, cards posted, and matches graded, all while managing morale. Those guys put in the work and never ask for a pat on the back or a thank you for what they do. It’s remarkable.
As is the case any time there’s some type of change, I’m sure there’s going to be people say, “What really happened?” That was answered in the first part of this message. I’m getting the chance to do something I love, and I can’t pass it up.
One of my favorite parts of being a mod has been getting to discuss creative ideas with some of you for your characters. My hope is that even when I’m not a mod anymore, I can still do that at least to some degree. Speaking of characters, Tommy Bedlam isn’t going anywhere. I still plan on handling the character and telling stories with him.
To the other mods, thanks for letting me be on the team for so long. I’ll probably never feel like I did enough to pull my weight. The work that you guys do to make this thing run is staggering. Folks, when you’re tempted to get upset about a segment that gets missed when you send it in, or when you don’t feel like your character looked like you wanted them to in a match, please be aware of just how much work it takes to write for every character in this fed. Show them a little grace, even when you’re feeling pissed off about something. I promise, when something gets missed or forgotten, it bothers them as much, if not more, than it bothers you.
Since I’ve been here, I’ve seen this fed make a move from a forum that was closing, backup years’ worth of data, then move to our own standalone forum. The future is bright for the FWA, and that includes the rest of 2024.
This has rambled on entirely too much, but if you’re still reading, let me close with this. I rolled into this fed at a particularly terrible point in my life. I was depressed beyond belief and needed an outlet to do something creative. I thought I’d found an active e-fed where I could write about a character and have some matches. I didn’t plan on finding a community. I didn’t plan on finding people who, though I’ve never met them in person, are considered friends in my world. Thank you for that.
Thank You All for Everything,
Tommy
