Cosmic Joshi Wrestling: Comet GP:
Final Round Robin Day: Planets Block
October 13th, 2024
The Comet GP for COSMIC Joshi Wrestling is nearing its conclusion with the round robin wrapping up this weekend. With next weekend being set for the first two rounds of the playoffs. The top three competitors from each of the two 10 women blocks will make it with the lower ranked ones fighting to fight the top ranked of the final block. The Stars block is already set. Notably, Ririko scraped in with the third spot with a 6-3 record. Miyu, falling to 5-4, sits on the outside, but is still happy with her first tournament appearance. Ririko and Miyu are backstage, having finished an under-card trios match with Katsu earlier in the night. Both of them are still in their gear with matching YDS colours of neon pink and green and have their CJW Trios titles on their shoulders. Next to them is the aforementioned co-leader, returning from FWA, Katsu. Brought over from the weekend, the briefcase she won in Steel Roulette. She holds it and can’t help but smile.
In the ring, in the semi-main is Cali Hayama. After a strong start, she ended up having a draw against REO, and is now 5-2-1. The tie followed by two straight losses has nearly knocked her out. But now, all she has to do is win and she’s in, with the main event impacting the seeding. Otherwise, it’d be down to math. Hooray.
Cali catches her opponent with a single leg dropkick and instantly kips up, shouting and feeling the energy of the crowd. Despite being a foreigner, she has been fully embraced by the fans. The match is beginning to reach its climax and to break the tension a bit, Ririko takes a look at Katsu’s Golden Opportunity Briefcase.
“So the briefcase has a contract?” She asks in Japanese. Katsu smirks and pats the briefcase.
“Right now? No. But what I did was I scanned the contract to save it and made multiple copies.”
“That sounds like a smart idea.” Miyu comments. “And I guess you signed it too?”
The Kitsune Warrior nods her head.
“For once it helps that my father is a lawyer. He told me to be careful.”
She jokes. Miyu then adds.
“Well, when has normal ‘law’ ever applied to wrestling? Didn’t someone in FWA try to burn down someone’s building?”
Trying to not go down the road of arson and worrying about the implications of it, Ririko asks.
“And the rule is for it is you can have your match at any time, right? Even if someone is in a match or just finished one?”
“That is the rule.” Katsu looks at the briefcase. “Americans in wrestling love their ‘drama.’ But they did tell me it ‘should be in a wrestling ring’ and a referee needs to be there. So there are limits I suppose.”
“Well, that does not sound the most ‘fair’ way to win.” Ririko comments.
“We do not see gimmicks like that here.” Miyu Kawamato looks up at the match. Just two people going at it. “We know when we are wrestling and when. To get a title match it often takes multiple wins, a champion accepting the match, a tournament, or even beating the champion. You earned a title match, but does it really seem fair to the fans if they do not know when it could happen.”
“Not everyone chooses to do it by surprise.” Katsu mentions. “Multiple people chose to ‘cash in’ in advance. The last man to win, Peacock, picked his date ahead of time.”
“So that means you will do it, yes?” The powerhouse asks her friend.
-and she does not give a straight answer. She scratches the back of her mask and is frank.
“There is a lot of uncertainty around FWA right now. There is high chances that NTR and FTN will head to war and others may end up in the crossfire… And I promised you to try to keep away from it if I can but considering FWA they run Meltdown this week, they might become big enough where I can't avoid them. Then add the champion, Jeremy, with his list of ‘friends’ expanding more and more... He will do anything to stay champion and feel wanted. A match in advance might not be fair to me.”
“We are free soon.” Kawamato reminds Katsu. “This tournament will be done before your next PPV. As long as CJW does not have a big event we are booked, some, or even all can come there to have your back.”
“I do not want to force you to come if you do not have to, but I will keep it in mind.” Looking down, there is some nervousness back in Katsu. The briefcase has a lot of power. In a lot of ways, can be an easy shot to be world champion. But it is just as easy to screw up.
“The more I think about it, the more I do not know how I will use this briefcase. I do not want potentially winning my first world championship to be considered ‘lucky’ or fluke filled. But then a champion like ‘Jeremy’ may not deserve advanced notice.”
“Treating people with honour who deserve it, right?” Ririko nods her head.
“I think it reminds me of something you told me. You let me wrestle my match. You know I can use weapons well, but I don't need them all the time. So I just do whatever I want-”
“The point, Kawamato?”
“You use this your way. Not someone else's. This is your briefcase and to get a world title match is a big moment for you. Do not let those people get in your head.”
Encouraging her friend, Ririko smile. “Exactly! You will make your mark with that briefcase!”
She pats the briefcase and Katsu seems to have a lightbulb go off in her head. A smirk appears on her face. Ririko gives her friend one more nugget of support.
“And in our opinion, you are ‘worthy’ of the title regardless.”
“Thank you.”
“NERF THIS BUSTEEER!”
The Japanese commentator shouts as they see Cali Hayama run off the ropes and hit her running blockbuster. Her opponent is folded over and her momentum carries her back to her back.
The friends look up as Cali Hayama rolls to the apron, slapping the mat and feeling fired up. She looks tired, but the adrenaline is pushing her through.
“Come on, Cali.” The FWA wrestler mutters under her breath as she sees the Asian-Canadian go to the top rope. Her opponent sits up, trying to pull herself up, but she is just where Cali wants her.
Leaping up in the air, Cali drives both feet into the chest with a diving double stomp-
“DYING NIIIIIGHT!” The commentator shouts at the top of his lungs. Cali hooks the leg and sits on top for a one…
Two…
Three!
The bell sounds and Cali lies on the mat, tired. She’s clinched her spot. The YDS members smile and decide to head to the ringside area to congratulate their friend, meeting with REO along the way to join them.

Walking back to her house after a long day of shopping, Katsuki takes off her surgical mask she wears when shopping in tight places and places her bags down. On her couch is the briefcase which signals her ‘Golden Opportunity.’ The masked wrestler takes a tarp and places it spread out on her floor and places her briefcase on it. She takes some cans of spray paint and sets them down next to it along with some paper to use as stencils.
For the next few hours, the wrestler expresses her creativity in a way other than her usual masks and attire. Layering the spray paint on the briefcase, a design comes to life, and finally, the briefcase gets an upgraded look.
She managed to create a gradient of red and gold, some colours often associated with her. Adding to it is a fox head logo, a variation of one of the ones she uses typically in an 8-bit version. Then YDS’ logo with her colours along with text in white. The paint is still damp with some of it dripping, but it seems to look nice. A stylistic choice which seems to work.
The GO holder has a smile on her face, proud of her handiwork as her phone begins to ring.
